The Official Three Best Rated® Blog

I'm not ashamed to admit that I have consumed a lot of motivational videos in the past couple of years. They have always helped me through my dark times and realign my thoughts to be the best I can be.

It's normal to be surrounded by fear, hesitation, and uncertainty. That doesn't define you, but how we act on those feelings does. Let us be better people than who we were yesterday and let us be even better tomorrow.

Every day someone is releasing a new video and I believe everyone should be given a fair chance at getting their voice heard. We've all seen the videos at the top of the search list, but so many great inspirational videos exist beyond that! I did some digging and here are my top 7 motivational YouTube videos released in 2019 that are under 50K views.

Click me to pin!

1. Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night Dylan Thomas Performed by Arwen Fonzen

This is part of the poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas which I honestly believe is one of the most powerful poems out there. This was part of a class project for voice actor Arwen Fonzen (the voice you hear in the video) and I'm blown away by it. I never heard the poem recited in such a raw way, but it adds so much to an already beautiful poem.

The quiet, but raw voice; the delicate music; the simple visual elements. All of these features encourage us to find the meaning within the words themselves. In our lowest, darkest point we must keep fighting and rage, rage against that dying light.

2. 3-Minute Motivation For Young Entrepreneurs

I may be a little biased choosing this YouTube video, but I honestly found a lot of meaning and motivation in this video. The Motivational Mirror project, created by Three Best Rated® in collaboration with AHD Multimedia, is aimed at young entrepreneurs, but I believe it can be applicable to all age levels no matter where what job you have or where you are.

I encourage you to find a picture of your younger self and give them advice. Act on it and see the difference in your life and your work.

What would you tell your younger self? Let me know in the comments below!

3. FLY - Motivational video | Inspirational video speech | Priyanka Copra | Kangana Ranaut | Women

As a woman myself, we need to fight for equal treatment for everyone. No matter where you are, no matter who you are, no matter what circumstances you face, you can be great. Eternal Explorer created this video to inspire, empower, and educate everyone, everywhere; I'm so glad they did.

Let's build the future of women together and fight for equal rights everywhere.

4. NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER - Best Motivational Speech Video (Featuring Freddy Fri)

Freddy Fri did a great job narrating this motivational YouTube video created by Motiversity. This is one of the videos that beats away your hesitation. This is one for when you hit that wall and you want to quit. You want to let go. You want to stop. Instead of giving in, pull yourself up from the ground and keep marching forward.

No retreat. No surrender.

5. NO ROOM FOR EXCUSES - Motivational Video

I love this video. It's so easy to make excuses about why we can't move forward. Why we don't want to make hard decisions. Why we don't want to take a risk. But we can't make those excuses. Don't allow them to hold you back; make those hard choices and keep fighting the good fight.

Chispa Motivation did a great job with this motivational video so stop making excuses and build your own story!

6. Can't Stop Caring About What Other People Think of You?? WATCH THIS

Tom Ferry is an inspirational coach and a real estate educator so his videos are geared towards businesses, but everything can learn a lot from him. I identify strongly with his message that we shouldn't care what others think. We live in such a connected lifestyle where the opinions of others dominate our actions, thoughts, and lifestyle.

We should be individuals and stop giving a rooty toot toot about what others think of us. After all, it's our life and we only have one chance to live it.

7. Stop! Wasting! Time! - Study Motivation

Study Motivation by ProjectElon makes videos geared towards students, but I believe that we are all life-long students. Some of my hardest days where when I was a student and the lessons I learned there still help me today. Sometimes we forget the lessons we learned when we are young are some of the most powerful lessons of all.

I particularly love the message that every second of our lives count.

Every. Single. Second.

There you have it! The Top 7 Motivational YouTube Videos Released in 2019 that are under 50K views.

Business owners are often taken for granted without consideration to the sacrifices and struggles they had to go through to be a business owner. They often put their reputation, financial stability and money on the line for a dream. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but for the ones that do, the rewards are worth it. Three Best Rated® sat down with three award-winning business owners to learn what sacrifices they made to have a successful business.

Jane Berry is the owner of Blueprint Home, a furniture store located in Ottawa, Ontario. Jane has always enjoyed the prospect of opening her own business. While attending university, she decided to make her dreams come true and opened her first business. She later decided to open Blueprint Home in 1999. She wanted to focus on a fresh and modern yet affordable style for her customers' homes. Jane decided on a boutique-style store to offer personal care and guidance with an experienced design team. She knew a home is at the heart of a person's life and wanted to help make the customer's furniture visions into a reality.

She has found that owning a business is filled with sacrifices. Jane has to do what is right for the business, even if the outcome was uncertain. “We lost power recently for three days after a tornado swept through Ottawa. While everything in our neighborhood was affected, we decided to open the store using natural daylight,” Jane says. “It turned out to be a great community experience.” She feels that having that community relationship is important, especially in this new age of technology. “We are a local business, so the surge in online shopping is currently a challenge,” she admits. Having a personal connection to the local community will hopefully drive loyal customers to their doors. Even though it's been over 20 years since it's inception, Jane still has trouble finding time to travel and take vacations. “Travel is a challenge as I'm a dedicated part of our team,” Jane says. She genuinely enjoys owning and working at Blueprint Home and knows that her sacrifices will be worth it in the end.

When she and her team found out that Blueprint Home was listed as one of the top three furniture stores in Ottawa, Ontario, for 2019 by Three Best Rated®, they were beyond excited. “It's so nice to be acknowledged in my retail community by Three Best Rated®,” she says. She hopes to continue to be listed on Three Best Rated® for years to come.

David Crane is the owner and founder of iBroken Canada, a phone and tablet repair service located in Calgary, Alberta. The idea to open a cellphone repair company came after he broke his own phone. He found the market to be in a huge upswing and decided to open iBroken Canada out of the back of his Honda Civic in 2013. David had previously owned an auto glass repair company and a window cleaning company so he was familiar with traveling to a customer's home to bring the service to them. “We started as a ... we come to you repair company,” David says, “I felt my idea of a mobile service for phone repair would be received well.” He worked hard to make his company a success. “I remember driving to customers' homes many nights past 9 p.m. to fix phones,” he says. “I remember fixing phones past 12 a.m.” His quality and dedicated soon spread through word of mouth and suddenly, iBroken Canada had three cars on the road before opening their first brick-and-mortar store in January of 2017.

iBroken Canada becoming a success wasn't easy. “There were many hard days,” David recalls. “With three cars on the road in a short time, it was prevalent that systems for inventory monitoring and route optimization were going to make or break the company. Many hours were spent testing software, coming up with a workflow and customer notifications on the status of their techs' arrival times.” He pushed through. For the first two years of the business, he was unable to take a salary. “Our family lived off my wife's income. I did not want to go into debt for the business, therefore, I reinvested 100 percent of the profits back into the business,” he says. He also refused to take a vacation for the first three years of the business. “Being self-employed looks glamorous on the outside, but it takes many years and a lot of hardship to make it really feel it was all worth it,” he says. David credits his work ethic and excellent customer service as the key parts of getting iBroken Canada off the ground. “My willingness to work hard non-stop got me referrals and repeat businesses,” he says. “It's a struggle making sure every staff member is trained on exactly how I take care of the customers and that the customers receive the same service every time and every day no matter what.” It is time well spent, however. “Without customer service and having our customers, the business would not exist,” he says.

When David and the iBroken Canada staff found out they were named one the top three phone and tablet repair companies in Calgary, Alberta, for 2019 by Three Best Rated®, they were thrilled. “We felt that our work and our dedication was finally getting recognized,” David says.

Jim Mydonick was raising a young family and dedicated his time to them. He served on his local community executive board and coached his kids through their sports programs for 10 years until 1998 when the last one flew the coop. Jim quickly became bored. He decided it was time to open his own shop and so InterCity Autobody officially opened on Oct. 1, 1991.

Jim already had plenty of experience working on cars as a refinished technician, but he admits it can be a struggle keeping up with the automotive industry. “The trade is evolving at a very rapid pace right now through technology and new automotive construction materials, such as aluminum and carbon fiber,” Jim says. “Another upcoming challenge for the last number of years is the shortage of trained and skilled technicians, as well as new apprentices coming into the trade.” Despite these challenges, he's confident in InterCity Autobody's ability to adapt and roll with the punches. After all, they already dealt with difficult situations. Very early into their existence, they had their MPI accreditation suspended for 90 days. “We billed the insurance company for a part of a customer's vehicle that was on back order and actually turned up being obsolete,” Jim explains. “We explained it to the insurance provider and supplied call records for all the attempts we made to try and find the part. They decided this would be considered insurance fraud and they suspended our accreditation for 90 days.” Despite this setback, InterCity Autobody continued to grow due to Jim's ability to learn from his mistakes and adapt. Owning a successful auto body shop hasn't been easy. “As a small business owner, you wear all of the hats all of the time at your business,” Jim says. ”The high times can be pretty enjoyable and the low times can almost break you.”

When he learned that InterCity Autobody was named one of the top three auto body shops in Winnipeg for 2019 by Three Best Rated®, he shrugged it off at first. “Honestly, I wasn't sure of the validity of the Three Best Rated® program, so I actually shrugged it off a few weeks,” he laughs. “I became aware that some other local businesses were mentioning the recognition in their advertising, so I checked out the credibility of Three Best Rated®.” When he realized it was a credible website, he was very pleased. “The fact that the research is done very independently and they had not contacted InterCity Autobody in any way also added to the integrity of the Three Best Rated® Recognition Award,” he says. “I would have to say that it is really nice to be recognized as being the top of the class, especially after all the years of hard work and dedication to the business and our customers.”

Customers don't often see, or realize, the amount of time, money and effort that goes into owning a business. It is extremely hard to have a successful, thriving business but the rewards are well worth it. Three Best Rated® wasn't just founded to help customers find great businesses but also to recognize all the hard work and sacrifices these business owners make. Three Best Rated® sat down with three business owners - Solomon Nordine of Complete Accounting Solutions, Joe Torbica of Tesla Computers and Shilpa Burad of Panda Flowers - to listen to their stories of what it takes to be a top-rated company.

Solomon Nordine is the president of Complete Accounting Solutions. Looking at him today, it's hard to see anything but a successful public accountant. However, like everyone, Solomon had to claw his way up to the top.

For Solomon, it all started with simply enjoying learning about businesses. He was fascinated at the thought of being employable by everyone in the world. “I was encouraged by my CGA father to become an accountant,” he recalls fondly. “Originally, I wanted to be an offshore accountant but after working in the public practice and saving people money on their taxes, I decided to work locally instead.” Solomon started as a controller during a slow period. He was starting from scratch, but he was determined to make his name known by saving his clients money. “By taking extra time to analyze potential tax savings and prior period adjustments, I ended up with happy clients that were more than willing to tell other people about me. My website also started to draw in business and by saving people money, I kept growing through referrals,” says Solomon. “By the third year, I needed two employees just to keep up with my referral growth.” Solomon has been incorporated since 2003 and operating as Complete Accounting Solutions since 2007.

Business hasn't always been easy, however. “[The hardest day of my business was] when our initial win at the B.C. Supreme Court to keep the word 'Professional' in our designation was overturned on appeal by CPABC,” Solomon recalls. They kept fighting and were able to get clarification of the final order in their favor. “We were able to re-brand the designation to Public Business Accountants and keep the PBA designation active in B.C.,” explains Solomon. “In the end, it was well worth defending the designation, but it would have been nice to avoid the hassle.” Even now, Solomon continues to make sacrifices for his business. “I've worked long hours, reinvested profits and taken additional programs so I can offer clients tax shelter services,” Solomon says. “Doing so may have increased my costs upfront, but it was well worth it in the long run.” He also goes the extra mile to resolve potential conflicts and issues to ensure his clients are given the best experience he can give. Solomon wants to continue to grow his business, but not for himself. He wants to grow his business for everyone that needs his services. “I would like to help everyone, [but] we need to prioritize the corporate small businesses,” Solomon says. “We're constantly hiring so we still take on small files by referrals, but I would like to get back to a position where we can take on nearly everyone that wants to use our services.”

When Solomon and his team found out they were listed on Three Best Rated®, they were excited. “We had already won the Consumer Choice Award, so the addition of the Three Best Rated® award meant our hard work was being noticed and that was quite rewarding,” Solomon says. He and his team have worked extremely hard to deliver the best tax services to their clients and being listed on Three Best Rated® makes them feel as though they have. “Our goal now is to keep showing up year after year,” he says. “The team has put in a lot of hard work with me and knowing we've achieved an outstanding [award] makes a big difference.”

Joe Torbica knew he wanted to work with computers the first time he got his hands on one. “The computer was not the best for the time,” Joe recalls, “but I saw all the amazing things you could do with a computer.” It was always a dream of his to own his own business and opening a computer repair shop seemed to be the perfect solution. Before opening Tesla Computers in 2007, he worked as a computer technician for a big corporation to build his skills.

Joe found out opening a business was no easy feat. “In the beginning, I was spending a lot of money for advertising and trying to find ways to bring the customers to my shop,” he says. “My first customer came in to repair their computer and they left happy.” That was the start of Tesla Computers' great reputation. “I always gave a good warranty for service and I make sure every customer is happy with our services and products,” he says. With that, Joe unlocked the key to a successful business.

It hasn't always been easy, however. “My biggest struggle is trying to keep the customers happy,” Joe admits. “A few years ago, a customer returned a computer purchased in my shop multiple times. He was trying to claim warranty because his kids physically damaged the PC and that isn't covered in the warranty. I fixed it anyway, without any problems, in hopes that he will send his family and friends to my business.” In his quest to provide excellent customer service, Joe has also made sacrifices. “I sometimes have to try and leave other jobs to help customers who need their computer fixed immediately,” he says. “Many times, if it's only a little issue, I won't charge them to make sure they come back.” This can cost him a lot of money up front, but it's worth it when the customer does come back and even refers their friends and family.

When Joe found out he was rated as one of the three best computer repair shops in Windsor by Three Best Rated®, he couldn't believe it. “I was very happy and surprised,” he says. “It proves the quality of my work and customer ratings.” He knew that the sacrifices and struggles he went through to open his shop and make it successful were all worth it. “This rating tells customers where to go and who to trust with their personal PC. It tells them who will respect their privacy and keep their private data confidential,” Joe says, “and I'm one of the three best.”

Shilpa Burad always had a mind for the arts and creativity. She always knew she wanted to do something art-related, but couldn't figure out what. She completed her education in the arts and went on to learn digital media to help her husband make architectural walk-throughs. In 2005, they took a big leap and immigrated to Canada in 2005. With two kids to raise, Shilpa decided to take a break from the digital media world. However, her close friend Sonal Raje, an artist, inspired her to pursue floristry. She completed her diploma from the Canadian Institute of Floral Design and hasn't looked back since. “Working with flowers is a delicate affair,” she says. “It's a labor of love.”

Shilpa worked as a florist for some nationally renowned shops in Toronto before she moved to the wild west (a.k.a. Alberta). She worked with a dozen floral shops before the owners of Panda Flowers decided to retire and were trying to sell their business. Shilpa jumped at the chance and started her first flower shop. She would soon realize that owning her own shop wouldn't be all roses and daisies.

The first struggle Shilpa had to contend with was how her shop could stay viable in the age of the internet. Many consumers where moving to online competitors. “We had to understand the ever-changing buying trends of the current generation and invest dollars where most traditional shops wouldn't even think of,” she explained. Most of all, Panda Flowers gives consumers something they simply can't get online – a human connection. Customers order flowers to commemorate a special occasion and Shilpa makes sure every bouquet, every flower, every detail embodies that sentiment.

Her reputation and legacy are built upon the sacrifices she has made. “There are many sacrifices [successful business owners] must take. It may be stability of work, stability of income, balancing our work/life split or sacrificing our sleep and comfort,” Shilpa says. “One must be ready to embrace an unstable path and unpredictable shifts on a daily basis.” Shilpa has seen her fair share of tough days. “Valentine's Day is one of the hardest, exhausting but fruitful days of the year,” she laughs. There's a lot riding on a successful Valentine's Day, for the shop and the customers. The past Valentine's Day was one of the hardest Shilpa had experienced. “We had hired three delivery companies to deliver flowers to three different areas of the town,” Shilpa recalls. “One of the delivery companies did not show up and we had to create an entire family and friends delivery crew within a matter of hours.” It was a very challenging and trying Valentine's Day for Panda Flowers, but it was worth it in the end. “It did end well with some really satisfied smiles,” Shilpa says. “And we learned a valuable lesson about the importance of delivery companies for flower shops.” She knows there will always be challenges and hard days, but there's always a lesson she can learn, too.

It was a pleasant surprise for Shilpa and Panda Flowers when they learned they were listed on Three Best Rated®. “Quite honestly, it was a humbling experience to learn that the work you do on a daily basis is validated by someone, somewhere, who is not connected to the actual business, but is observing it from the internet,” she says. It helped make her feel that the struggles and sacrifices she and many others have put into the business are worth it. “Being listed on Three Best Rated® gives us, as a business, an opportunity to brag about ourselves and Three Best Rated®,” Shilpa laughs. “We always talk about the unbiased, unrelated third-party approach taken by Three Best Rated®.” Shilpa wants to continue to work hard to deliver the best product and experience to the city of Sherwood Park and greater Edmonton area in Alberta.
